Let your curiosity and your host of the day, Jacqueline lead you into the heart of our capital!
The tour kick starts at Trou Fanfaron Police station, in the heart of the bustling capital, located at the historical bus station which used to be called Immigration square or Place de l'immigration.
Meet Jacqueline, your host for the day will make you discover the city highlights from a local’s perspective. She will lead you to the colourful central market to really make the most of the incredible ambience of the city. You will also find a plethora of stalls packed with freshly baked goods, unusual local fruits and herbs, and stalls selling delicious street food. Something not to be missed is the ‘Alooda’ tasting (Our local milkshake).
Stroll along the historical streets, marvelling at old colonial buildings at la Place d’armes edged with Royal palm trees and walk towards the brand new ‘Victoria station’, which used to be a train station to catch a local bus to Jacqueline’s place.
Alight at Cité Valleejee, one of the most famous and populated suburbs of Port Louis where Jacqueline will take you around to show you the ancient docker's residences, how different cultures and religions mix socially and are always respectful of each other’s ethnic culture and values. This visit will enable you to experience and feel how the locals live despite their different origins.
Afterwards, Jacqueline will host you at her humble place in Cassis for a typical homemade Mauritian lunch, where you will also get the chance to try our famous Phoenix beer among other local drinks!
About Jacqueline
Born in Mauritius, Jacqueline has over 30 years of experience in the tourism industry as a cabin stewardess and Tour guide.
Now happily retired, Jacqueline is what we call a ‘Bon vivant’. Besides being a nature and a music lover, she is also passionate about the island’s history and published two books namely ‘Ebony is still on Mauritius’ and ‘Astor maiden cruise around the world'.
Like most Mauritians, she speaks Creole, English and French but Jacqueline, curious by nature learned and now masters German. Joyful and knowledgeable, this mother of two will share her journey and make you enjoy an unforgettable and authentic experience!
